Gangster Squad

"Gangster Squad" wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but I also didn't have very high expectations. "Gangster Squad" did look very good with the 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The acting was also very good with Sean Penn (Mickey Cohen), Ryan Gosling (Sgt. Jerry Wooters), Josh Brolin (Sgt. John O'Mara, and Emma Stone (Grace Faraday). Now the screenplay wasn't very good, like the dialogue was kind of stupid sometimes, and every once in a while the gun mussel flares didn't look very good. Now the explosions looked pretty realistic ,but just the mussel flares didn't match up with the actually gun shots. This movie overall isn't bad, but it isn't amazing either, so it's just an OK film.

The Evil Dead

"The Evil Dead" is another classic horror movie directed by Sam Raimi. "The Evil Dead" was one of those movies when it came out, it was a huge deal. The scene where Ellen Sandweiss (Cheryl) gets raped by the trees was banned in multiple countries. "The Evil Dead" was the launch of Sam Raimi's (director/writer) career. This movie will be considered one of the greatest horror flicks with "The Shining" and "Psycho". "The Evil Dead" is how many movie writers wanted Sam Raimi to direct their movies like, "Spider-Man", "The Oz Great Powerful", and "A Simple Plan". This amazing horror film is definitely amazing to watch and especially with a very low budget. "The Evil Dead" will absolutely go down as one of the greats.

Army of Darkness

"Army of Darkness" is a classic comedy horror movie. This is one "groovy" film. Another amazing Sam Raimi (director/writer) film. "Army of Darkness" of course stars the bad ass Bruce Campbell. Bruce Campbell was born to play in both "The Evil Dead" and "Evil Dead 2". Even though "Army of Darkness" and "The Evil Dead" are two different movies, they both are directed by Sam Raimi and stars Bruce Campbell. "Army of Darkness" is very funny and is supposed to be funny. Now Bruce Campbell made "Ash" one of the most memorable characters in movie history. "Army of Darkness" also has some of the most famous lines out of any Sam Raimi film,"Well hello mister fancy pants" and "groovy". So if you haven't seen "Army of Darkness", you need to.

Inglourious Basterds

"Inglourious Basterds" is definitely one of Quentin Tarantino's best films. This movie opens up with a super suspenseful scene. "Inglourious Basterds" has a really great cast with Christoph Waltz (Col. Hans Landa), Eli Roth (Sgt. Donny Donowitz), Mélanie Laurent (Shosanna), and Brad Pitt (Lt. Aldo Raine). Before this movie came out, people believed that Brad Pitt will get his first Oscar, but he didn't have enough screen time. Instead, Christoph Waltz won the only Oscar this movie got which was the best actor in a supporting role. "Inglourious Basterds" did get nominated for seven Oscars, but it only got one of them. Of course this movie has another amazing screenplay which was written by one of the best, Quentin Tarantino. Quentin Tarantino did another spectacular job with "Inglourious Basterds".

The Protector

"The Protector" is an action film where the fight scenes are so cool. A film critic named Jeffery Lyles, The Gazette quotes "The best all-out action film so far this year". Also "The Protector" was presented by Quentin Tarantino. Now this movie is an awesome and bad ass movie to watch for the fight scenes, but the story line is pretty stupid. Also the acting in this film wasn't very good, but it's an action film so I wasn't expecting good acting. The director Prachya Pinkaew had some really cool shots in this film, like there is a scene where he goes up 5 stories in one shot, and it is amazing to watch. The fighting scenes make up for everything that is wrong with the film. Tony Jaa (Kham) did his on stunts, so almost everything that is in this film he actually did. Also this movie had no stunt doubles, no wires, or no CGI. "The Protector" is an awesome film where almost everything is real.

Evil Dead

"Evil Dead" is a really good horror flick. "Evil Dead" is one of the only horror films that the ending is actually not bad, because usually horror movies are hard to end, but "Evil Dead" is not bad. Fede Alvarez (director) did an awesome job with making this movie like the original "The Evil Dead". "Evil Dead" references the original a lot, and Fede Alvarez made the references perfect. Now the acting by Jane Levy (Mia), Lou Taylor Pucci (Eric), Jessica Lewis (Olivia), and Elizabeth Blackmore (Natalie) was very good. The actor that didn't impress me as much as the other actors/actresses was Shiloh Fernandez who played as David. Every now and then Shiloh did decent for me not to notice, but then there were some scenes were he just didn't that well. But overall, this is one creepy and really good horror flick.

The Raid: Redemption

"The Raid: Redemption" is a great film. An action packed movie with the most bad ass fights. "The Raid: Redemption" would have done a lot better if "Dredd 3D" didn't come out. Both of those movies sort of have the same concept, but those are two different movies. "The Raid: Redemption" was directed by Gareth Evans. Gareth Evans hasn't done a lot of movies besides "VHS 2", "Merantu", and "Footsteps". Even though he hasn't done a lot, but "The Raid: Redemption" has amazing reviews. A film critic named Twitch Film quoted "The best action film in decades". Soon there will be "The Raid 2", which the plot is unknown, but it takes place 2 hours after "The Raid: Redemption" ends. So you can't go see "The Raid 2" if you haven't seen "The Raid: Redemption", and I promise you, you won't regret it.

The Untouchables

"The Untouchables" is a classic. This film won an Oscar for the best actor in a supporting role. But this whole cast is spectacular with Kevin Costner (Eliot Ness), Andy Garcia (Agent George Stone/ Giuseppe Petri), Sean Connery (Jim Malone), and Robert De Niro (Al Capone). Sean Connery won the Oscar for the supporting role. This movie was directed by Brain De Palma who also did, "Carlito's Way", "Mission: Impossible", and "Scarface". "The Untouchables" was written by David Mamet who wrote, "The Verdict" and "Wag the Dog", which both of those movies were nominated for on Oscar for their writing. But "The Untouchables" had better ratings that bother of those movies. This is one great and classic film.

Battle Royal

"Battle Royal" is an amazing foreign film. "Battle Royal" was directed by Kinji Fukasaku who is known for "Tora! Tora! Tora!", "Under the Flag of the Rising Sun", and "Graveyard of Honor". "Battle Royal" was first the hit novel written by Koushun Takami. Both "Battle Royal" the novel and "Battle Royal" the movie were fantastic. In 2001, "Battle Royal" won 2 the Blue Ribbon Award for the best new actor (Tatsuya Fujiwara), and the best film. Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, & Django Unchained) said that "Battle Royal" was his favorite movie. "Battle Royal" is one of the top 10 highest grossing films in Japan. This film is fantastic.

Natural Born Killers

"Natural Born Killers" is one of those movies that everyone says that they think is one of the greatest films. Truthfully, I would not even come close to ever saying that statement. Now don't get me wrong, "Natural Born Killers" isn't a terrible movie by any means, but it is definitely not one of the greatest. When you watch this film, it is kind of difficult to follow. Oliver Stone (the director) tried to hard to be different and it was just annoying to watch. I didn't like the whole thing where you see the future in black and white then it changes back to present time in color. That whole little sequence got kind of old once Oliver Stone did it multiple times. Also I respect Oliver Stone on trying to be different, but his choice of camera angles were not smart. Oliver Stone tried to make the conversations more intense when he didn't have to, like when the movie opens up, and Woody Harrelson (Mickey Knox) and Juliette Lewis (Mallory Knox) are in the restaurant, Oliver Stone slightly turned the camera when they talked and it was just wasn't needed. But I did like acting by Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis, they both did a really good job, but I believe Oliver Stone just made some bad choices in the film.
